Hurri-cation in Houston

Our drive out of New Orleans was pretty smooth yesterday.  It seemed like an ordinary Monday in New Orleans, maybe a little bit sleepier.  No real traffic problems and it was a beautiful sunny day.  We had a nice lunch break at City Park in Baton Rouge and Kiran got to stretch his legs on the playground.  We decided to head to Houston from there, staying on I-10 through Cajun Country.  We had another pit stop at a Welcome Center near the Texas border. Kiran got to rock in a rocking chair that was just his size and he sipped some milk from a little carton.  He really got into drinking from the straw and gave the milk pouch a good squeeze.  Milk went everywhere and he thought that was pretty funny!   Back in the car for a couple more hours and we rolled into Houston around 6pm.

We are staying at the Modern B&B in the museum district, thanks to a tip from Aaron.  We booked the room on the road yesterday and got upgraded to a 2 bedroom suite with a private bath and a pack-n-play!   The pack-n-play is pink and a little too small for Kiran, but he slept well anyway.   For breakfast we had fruit, granola, bread, and omelets... delicious, but not as good as the Alpine Homestead.  Today we explored Hermann Park and took a train ride from the zoo.  Kiran had fun and by the end of the ride, was saying "toot toot," like the train.

So, all is well with us and we're happy to be away from New Orleans right now.   Sounds like the bad weather is on track to hit this evening, so we are glad we are out of the path.  Scott and Heather are safely in Tuscaloosa, Alabama for a couple of days.  Schools are closed  through Wednesday.  We're planning to return to New Orleans on Thursday if things look clear.
