Tour de Texas

Our 2 day Hurrication turned into a week-long Tour de Texas thanks to Hurricane Isaac.  The power was out in most of New Orleans for the week.  School was canceled until the day after Labor Day.  There were plenty of trees and branches down, but luckily flooding wasn't a problem.  When we realized we couldn't return to New Orleans right away, we decided to head on to Fort Worth to visit Ram's family.
We had a great visit and Kiran had fun doing puzzles with Nayanama and playing at the playground with Tata.  He also had fun pushing the "swiffer" around the house and he had a blast in the big bathtub.    We enjoyed a quick trip to the Modern Art Museum and Kiran had fun looking at the statues and exploring the museum.

Then we traveled on to Austin, where we connected with Thomas, Leela, Aunt Shaila and Uncle Joseph.  We had a fun time staying with Tony and Betzi.  Kiran got a workout on the stairs and the swimming pool.  He was really happy to see his cousins and he liked seeing the sights in Austin.

We had a long drive home on Labor Day, but Kiran was great in the car.  We made a few pit-stops and got our fill of Texas BBQ.  Kiran insisted on stopping at Dunkin Donuts, and he actually used the potty there!  Our power was back on when we got home and things looked pretty good around the neighborhood.  We had some work to do cleaning out the fridge and freezer, but no damage around the house.  We are grateful that the storm wasn't too bad in our neck of the woods, but we know some of our neighbors weren't so lucky.  We learned a lot about preparing for a storm and packing up to dodge the weather on short notice.   I'm sure we'll have to deal with something like this again... its just the reality of living on the gulf coast!

School started a week late at Loyola and Tulane, but we're off and running now.  Kiran has settled back in at daycare after a rough transition back.  We had some separation anxiety after spending a good week all together.  Plus, his lessons on ducks were delayed by a week and he was a little bit upset about that.  He is all caught up now and he's getting the hang of the quacking now.  I finally gave in and got Kiran his first Saints shirt, and he wore it proudly for "black and gold day" on Friday.  This Friday, the Whelan Center is having a special snack for Grandparents day.  We wish his grandparents could come, but we will be thinking of them.  Kiran made a very special art project for his grandparents and he's very excited to send it to them.
